INTRODUCTION TO FERMENTATION COURSE AUGUST 2019

Based in the pilot-scale FlexBio facility, this one day course is aimed at scientists, engineers, suppliers, post graduate students and postdocs wishing to learn more about bioprocessing and the biotech sector.

Who should attend this course?

  • Scientists or engineers in industry who want to develop and/or optimise bioprocesses
  • Suppliers moving into, or wanting to learn more about, the biotech sector
  • PG student or postdoc currently working with industry or planning to in the future


You will learn about:

  • Media development and process optimisation of microbial fermentations
  • Basic fermenter use i.e. calibration, Sterilisation-In-Place (SIP), pH monitoring, fermentation of the culture and harvest
  • Downstream processing and product isolation including cell separation, filtration and purification of products


You will see in action:

  • A pilot-scale plant
  • How a fermenter works and a Sterilisation-In-Place demo at 30L scale
  • Specialist fermentation skills (sterile technique and anaerobic manipulation)
